Any town can do much for its schools in fundraising—and global social responsibility. Even small towns can thrive and raise fundraising dollars that make a great impact on students’ school and extracurricular activities. Moreover, they can help the planet and also families in developing nations, all at the same time.

One of our partners, the Logrog Band, did just that with their “Shoe Us Some Love” Shoe drive fundraising campaign, which raised over $1,500! Their fundraiser was epic not only because it raised funds for the booster club but also because it brought the community together. Their fundraiser was a way to demonstrate the power of local communities coming together.
During the shoe drive fundraiser for the Logrog Band, they involved not only the school community but also engaged businesses and others. Of course, they earned the fundraising dollars they needed, but there was more. They supported sustainability and created commerce opportunities for people in developing countries, including the Global South.
The ‘Shoe Us Some Love’ Campaign Involved Community
Like any school group, the Logrog Band always seeks creative booster club fundraising ideas. And they saw it when they came across shoe drive fundraising. By collecting gently worn, used and new shoes, they realized they had found a way to do something different than ask for money or sell merch to raise funds.
Moreover, the shoe drive fundraiser would help them raise funds, but it was also great for the planet because it helped keep shoes out of the trash. This type of fundraising campaign also gives a hand-up to people living in developing nations. So, with that triple win for making an impact, what’s not to love?
The Logrog Band decided to time their fundraising campaign for the Rogersville City Wide Yard Sale weekend. During this popular event in their community, the residents buy and sell things to each other. So, tying their shoe drive fundraiser to this town yard sale was a stroke of genius for their ‘Shoe Us Some Love’ campaign. But the booster club did more for success!
Harnessing the Power of Social Media for a Fundraiser
Everyone knows that social media is a powerful tool. The Logrog Band decided to leverage it to help them have a successful fundraiser. For one, they created a ‘Shoe Us Some Love’ on Facebook. That was a smart move to update and direct their community. However, they also leveraged local Facebook groups to encourage people to donate unsold shoes to the fundraiser!
They created different digital assets to ensure that they caught people’s attention. For instance, they developed unique social media images informing their community about shoe collection drop-off locations. In turn, that helped them to spread the word. By making it super easy for people to drop off shoes, they helped to drive traffic to the collection locations.
Community Partnerships: A Winning Fundraising Strategy
Beyond social media, the booster club understood from the outset that they needed to engage the entire community. So, one of their efforts included reaching out to the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce. That allowed them to ensure that local businesses supported their fundraiser. They signed up the businesses to become drop-off locations for the shoes!
But they didn’t stop there! They went one better by incentivizing businesses. They created a ‘performance price’ for companies that collected the most shoes. And you can guess what happened. The businesses that participated got to it and performed. Also, the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce amplified messaging by sending emails and doing social media posts!
Creative Outreach and Touches
The Logrog Band went the extra mile. They didn’t simply ask businesses to become drop-off locations. They showed them their appreciation. Almost all drop-off locations were visited by members of the band, who offered tips and ideas for decorating shoe collection boxes, answered questions, and expressed their thanks!
Of course, the Logrog Band ensured their community was super involved. To achieve high engagement and involvement, they sent emails, made asks on social media, and rallied people through in-person events. The band members took a leadership role, and everyone worked together to get the entire community involved.
For instance, students received goal sheets from organizers to track the progress of their shoe drive fundraising efforts. The more bags of shoes they collected, the more funds they would raise! Further, the sky was the limit, and there was no cap on their fundraising. These goal sheets created a sense of responsibility and teamwork, which connected people more tightly.
The Impact of the Shoe Drive Fundraiser
Ultimately, the Logrog Band shoe drive fundraiser was a massive success for the booster club. Not only did they achieve their fundraising goal, but they galvanized their community to come together. For example, businesses reported more foot traffic and engagement. Yard sale hosts encouraged people to donate to the shoe drive fundraiser.
The students of the band also personally benefited. For instance, as a result of their leadership and participation in the shoe drive fundraiser, they developed life skills. They were able to create something that brought many together, ultimately providing students with a great sense of accomplishment.
But there was more. Every year, over 300 million shoes go to the trash and landfills. That’s terrible for the planet. The shoes collected by the Logrog Band were shipped worldwide for reuse and to change lives. The shoes helped provide people in developing countries with inventory because more than 70% of the global population reuses clothing and shoes. So, every shoe drive fundraiser is a chance to save the planet and change lives for people worldwide.
