Moving Boxes

All too often, companies are frustrated by the seemingly-endless hassle of commercial Moving in a place as busy and expensive as New York City. There are new floorplans to draw up, Office movers to hire, meetings to attend and much more to do in a short amount of time. How are companies supposed to cope with all of the hassle involved in New York City commercial moving? Read on for a few tips on how you can have a hassle-free office move!

  • Communication is key. When it comes to commercial moving, communication is always key. Schedule a meeting with your department heads as soon as you decide to move to answer any questions on their end and delegate moving-related tasks. It’s also a good idea to send out weekly or monthly email updates to your staff regarding the current state of the relocation, designate a point of contact to direct any moving-related questions to and also to send email reminders before key deadlines, such as when an office purge should be completed or when workstations need to be vacated before your office movers arrive.
  • Plan months in advance. As a general rule of thumb, begin planning your move at least six months in advance. Larger companies and those planning more complex moves may need around two years of proper planning. Bottom line: don’t wait until the last minute!
  • Ensure any Certificates of Insurance are obtained ahead of time. Make a point to obtain any Certificates of Insurance at least several days ahead of your planned office relocation. Waiting until the last minute could cause some major complications if the building managers don’t approve the COIs in time!
  • Hold an office purge before moving. Office purges are an excellent way to save money, time and space at your new location. Holding an office purge can greatly reduce the hassle of moving unneeded materials and supplies to your new office and also save your company money!
  • Draw up floorplans in advance. Finally, before your commercial moving project actually starts, be sure to draw up your new floorplans several weeks in advance of your anticipated moving date. It’s also a good idea to consult with professional architects, interior designers and your office movers for larger floorplans to create an optimal design for your new office location.
