For the longest time, Charles Nyakundi had wanted to work for an IT company. Starting out as an accountant in Kenya, Charles went to the United States and set his sights on becoming the person who would serve as a bridge between business and technology. “I really wanted to use my knowledge as an HR generalist, as an accountant, and as a person who understands technology,” he said about his Oracle journey.
One day, opportunity came in the form of a contractor position, which Charles took without hesitation. “I took a two-month contract, and it turned out to be one of the greatest choices I’ve ever made,” he explained. However, his dedication wouldn’t go unnoticed, for which he soon transitioned into a full time position. “It turned out to be a blessing,” he added.
Besides finally belonging to a place where his professional acumen would be put to good use, he discovered the joys of Oracle’s work environment. “The people, starting with those in leadership roles, make Oracle remarkable,” Charles shared. As for the flexibility that’s encouraged throughout the company, it would also have an impact on Charles’ outlook of his career. “The kind of flexibility that I have, and the project-oriented nature of my work helps immensely to feel I have the freedom to choose my destiny here and build a great career, and become really productive,” Charles acknowledged.
As of today, Charles has been a part of the Oracle family for two years, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead are his for the taking. “I do see the potential for advancement everywhere I look; this is truly a good environment to work in,” he said. Rest assured that Charles, and those who share his attitude, will make the best of Oracle’s perks and possibilities, and reach their career dreams.
