The Importance of RAMS

Contemporary businesses face a unique set of challenges, which requires more capital injection against a backdrop of increasing operational costs. Some of these challenges range from disruptive technology, growing size of business facilities, expanded business operations with an international focus, increasing demand for quality from users, demand for more efficiency to meet shifting user expectations and many others.

Faced with these challenges, it is important for every business to adopt a new approach starting with the basics. This is where a Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) system comes into place. There is general consensus that as companies expand, asset management and operations is becoming a nightmare.

A RAM system is optimized to deal with these bottlenecks. This entails a well-designed and properly implemented solution to deal with growing facilities in order to cut costs. The implementation of Rams begins with assessment of your current production system’s failures. This is an extensive assessment phase where constituent elements such as equipment will be evaluated to determine their impact on the overall performance.

If a constituent component is failing, then it is logical that it will have an impact on the overall performance hence the need to determine the actual quantification of this impact. Quantitative analysis of reliability and recommendation of the best way to achieve optimal reliability levels is also part of a RAM process.

Once the RAM analysis is complete, there is more data to rely on in decision making. The data generated will also come in handy in improving overall system efficiency, which is what every business today needs. Ultimately, RAMs leads to optimal performance and this improves the bottom-line. Identifying the weak links in the system using concrete data leads to gradual improvement.

Implementing Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) analysis for a Gas Turbine plant requires technical expertise and resources. It is advisable to use an established RAMs consultant who will bring on board the following:

  • Extensive skill set from the team implementing RAMs.
  • Reduce unplanned outages, starting failures, less power trips at your plant.
  • Systematic RAMs process to guarantee excellent results
  • Improving availability levels of the gas turbine unit up to 95%
  • Improving reliability
  • Reduce the rate of failure
  • Comprehensive project management including design maintenance practices, design maintenance procedures, field data analysis, I&C training, RAM project design & supervision, define RAM project improvements, design software/hardware modules and technical audit developer and supervision.

By identifying the weak points in the gas turbine system, generating data on reliability and availability, prioritizing areas that need preventive maintenance RAMs analysis enhances operational efficient and lowers operational costs. If you need help with maintenance with RAMs, AC-DLE have a RAM Projects program for a project evaluation & quotation. This program will improve your RAMs. Feel free to contact us to get more information about RAMs or RAM Project.
