Saving Money with an Artificial Lawn

Could Artificial Grass Save You Cash?

We all want the outside of our home to look tidy and well cared for, to have that magical “kerb appeal”. But with modern budgets needing to be stretched further than ever before, how can our gardens look beautiful but at the same time cost as little as possible? Have you considered the possibilities of Artificial grass? There are many benefits to having an artificial lawn.

1. It gives you a garden area that can be utilised throughout the year not only on dry days, making your garden more of an extension to your home through more of the seasons.

2. Children can play outdoors year round without them getting muddy and dirty and adding to your washing pile, and they won’t be bringing the garden indoors with them on their feet. Muddy floors and carpets and expensive cleaners are a thing of the past!

3. Pets can also use the garden with no detriment to the lawn. Yellowed or bare patches are not a problem with artificial grass, it can be washed and brushed off to clean it hygienically and easily.

There is, of course, an initial expense. Your new lawn will need a little preparation prior to laying the artificial grass. The surface must be level and well compacted, in fact some artificial turf can be laid directly onto concrete, but if you are replacing existing grass you will need to dig down and lay a membrane to keep the artificial grass separate from the underlying soil. The material is easy to work with and if you are competent and confident it could be a satisfying DIY project.

But how can artificial grass save you money? As the saying goes, time is money and your artificial lawn won’t require the same time consuming maintenance as a conventional lawn. It obviously doesn’t grow so it doesn’t need mowing, leaving you to spend your Saturday morning doing something you actually want to do, not battling the mower from the shed avoiding the spiders, then painstakingly trimming the edges to achieve lawn perfection. And you won’t have the expense of replacing and maintaining these tools.

Once it’s laid your artificial grass will last for years. Many manufacturers give a five or even ten-year guarantee on their product. It won’t need reseeding over worn or pet marked areas each Spring, it won’t need pesticides to keep it weed free, and it won’t need feeding to keep it healthy and nourished. It will look lush and perfect whatever the time of year or weather conditions. Perhaps the biggest cost saving though is on watering. In a hot, dry summer a thirsty natural grass lawn can make up a large percentage of a family water bill as you try to keep it as green and attractive as your neighbors.

In short then, how can your artificial grass save you money? Quite simply, it cuts down on your irrigation water bill; it won’t need time consuming and costly mowing, seeding, feeding or weeding; and it will give you years of pleasure without much effort at all.
