Doing my best Oprah imitation, let me exclaim, "It's my B i r t h  D a y!! It's my birthday! It's my birthday!!  And You are getting a gift!!!

That was fun. But seriously, I do have a little happy for you on February 5.

For the past couple of months, I've been curating my Painting notes and creating paintings to illustrate the five steps to painting. My new eBook "Learn to Paint in 5 Steps: And Unleash Your Creative Spirit" is now available on Amazon. If you would like to have your own copy, visit Amazon.com on February 5th and purchase a copy for $0. You can read the book on your phone, tablet or Kindle reader.

A paperback version of the book is also available but it is not free, due to the expenses to create it.

Whether you paint regularly or have never picked up a paintbrush, "Learn to Paint in 5 Steps" will help guide you from your first brushstroke to final signature. It also has a section with ideas on how to subsidize your painting habit by selling your paintings or prints of them.

With the release of this eBook, I have the potential to share the joy I feel from painting with people all over the world!!

In addition to the eBook, I've started recording my canvas while I paint. These painting demonstration videos are available on my YouTube Channel. Please subscribe and see how easy it is to paint!

Spring is just around the corner. In the meantime, stay safe and warm, and keep those brushes wet!

  Susan

PS.  Please forward this newsletter to a friend and share the fun!

Laura Lanford Fine Art
Painting from Photographs…..Anything Goes Workshop
March 22-23, 2018

Laura Lanford is a highly sought-after painting instructor, and we are so fortunate to host her in Spring Hill for an evening demo and one-day workshop.

Laura is a representational artist who is inspired to capture the drama of light and shadow. She loves capturing scenes from ordinary life using dynamic color and energetic brushwork. She paints in several genres including cityscapes, landscapes, still life and figurative work.

She has always had a love of art and studied graphic design/illustration at Auburn University. Laura has studied with gifted artists: Joan Tysinger, JoAnn Williams Walker, Guido Frick, Bill Davidson, Nancy Franke and Anne Blair Brown. However, she considers James Richards to be her professional mentor. Laura teaches oil painting at J. Richards Gallery as well as professional workshops around the Southeast.

“Painting from Photographs….Anything Goes Workshop” will begin with a Thursday night demo. Laura will demonstrate her process of how to capture light and shadow with six simple values. On Friday, Laura will work individually with each student to help expand their knowledge of painting from photographs. Students can paint any subject matter from life or a photograph that interests them. Learn how to manipulate photos and prevent the pitfalls that photos cause in painting. Composition, value, temperatures, color, texture and edges will all be addressed. Some painting experience required. Professional Level Beginner to Intermediate.

Offered by Spring Hill Parks and Rec, the workshop fee is $150. Students bring their own supplies and a list will be provided. Contact Susan Jones for more information or to register, 615-668-8263.  Space is limited.

4.   CHESTNUT GROUP ART SHOW AT WARNER PARKS, NASHVILLE, TN

Coming up in April 2018 is the “Honor The Earth” art show and sale to benefit the Warner Parks. Scheduled for April 20-22, 2018, the art show will be at the Nature Center located at 7311 HWY 100, Nashville.

Now encompassing 3,187 acres, Warner Parks is truly one of Nashville’s treasures. Chestnut Group members are busy painting the beauty of the scenes in preparation for the show.

5.   CHESTNUT GROUP ART SHOW with the CUMBERLAND RIVER COMPACT

It's a little early to planning to attend the Cumberland River Compact Show scheduled for early November 2018, but not to early to be painting for it if you are a member of the Chestnut Group.  Paintings will be of landscapes, animals, and plants anywhere in the Cumberland River watershed, which is basically any where in middle Tennessee.

6.   CHESTNUT GROUP ART SHOW with THE CONSERVANCY FOR THE PARTHENON

This show is so exciting. It will be held in The Parthenon in Nashville, TN, at the end of May, 2019.

7.   CHESTNUT GROUP ART SHOW  at RADNOR LAKE

The Chestnut Group partners with Radnor Lake every other year for good reason. It continues to be one of the biggest and most popular of the Chestnut Group shows. We will be painting there for the next year and the show will be in the autumn of 2019.
