Credit: Sarah A. FriedmanR&B legend Aaron Neville has premiered a new track called "Stompin' Ground" from his upcoming studio album, Apache.
The Grammy-winning singer tells Billboard that the horn-laden, head-swinging jam is "all about me growing up in New Orleans and a lot of the people that I ran across in my life." Among the local musicians Neville name-checks in the tune are Fats Domino, Louis Armstrong, Professor Longhair and Mac Rebennack -- a.k.a. Dr. John. Aaron says that the song is one of several tracks on Apache that were based on poems he's written.
Apache will be released on July 15. Fans who pre-order the album now will be able to instantly download "Stompin' Ground," along with the tracks "I Wanna Love You" and "Be Your Man."
Meanwhile, Neville will support Apache with a series of U.S. tour dates running from mid-July into December. The trek will include a special show on August 4 at New York City's famous Apollo Theater that will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of Neville's classic tune "Tell It Like It Is."
