Courtesy of Skype 2016After composing Music for the popular 2014 video game Destiny, Paul McCartney is once again pairing his songwriting talents with modern technology in a new partnership with Skype. The former Beatles star has created original music for a series of love-themed "Mojis," animated characters that you can employ to express various heartfelt emotions while using the video-chat platform.
McCartney composed music and devised sounds for 10 love Mojis, which have been released just in time for Valentine's Day. After agreeing to the task, the Skype team sent Sir Paul a description of various emotions and he was asked to create a unique seconds-long piece for each one.
"It turned out to be a great laugh at the same time as challenging because you suddenly realize you've got to compress a musical interpretation of an expression into less than five seconds," McCartney explains. "It was like doing a huge crossword puzzle and coming up with all these solutions. And at the same time it was musical so it was great practice for me in the studio."
McCatney recorded his mini compositions at his Hog Hill Mill studio in Sussex, U.K., using various instruments, including a Moog synthesizer, guitars, keyboards, drums and a xylophone. Sir Paul also added his voice to some of the pieces.
