Courtesy of NetflixYou know The Beatles -- now meet Beat Bugs. It's a new animated children's series premiering on Netflix this August that will incorporate various new cover versions of classic Fab Four songs into its storylines.
Among the many artists confirmed to contribute renditions of Beatles tunes to the show are Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, Pink, Sia and James Bay. The series, which was created by Josh Wakely, focuses on the adventures of a group of tiny friends whose whole universe revolves around the backyard of a suburban home.
The producers of Beat Bugs were able to secure a deal to use compositions from John Lennon and Paul McCartney's Northern Songs catalog. The tunes will be tied into the plot of each episode of the program, which will include "uplifting and life-affirming" themes. More than 50 Fab Four songs will be featured in the show, including are "All You Need Is Love," "Come Together," "Help!," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," "Magical Mystery Tour," "Penny Lane," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," and "Yellow Submarine."
"Bringing Beat Bugs to life on Netflix and having a platform to re-imagine this universally acclaimed music for families around the world is an exhilarating and rewarding experience," says Wakely. "Our partners have been fantastic in making this concept a vivid reality."
Meanwhile, Vedder, who recorded a version of "Magical Mystery Tour" for the show, says, "Personally I'm very grateful to be part of Josh's vision. A tremendous show for kids that combines beautiful animation with great stories and obviously some of the best songs ever written."
