New Delhi, February 18:
Her Husband Embraced Martyrdom while fighting for the country last year. Now, in a unique tribute to her husband, Nitika Kaul is all set to join the Indian Army.
The 28-year-old, who has roots in Kashmir, has cleared the Short Service Commission (SSC) examination as well as the subsequent interview.
The only step left is to wait for the merit list to be declared. Once Kaul is in the merit list, she will be able to join the Indian Army as a cadet.
Kaul's husband, Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal, was martyred in a gun battle with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, last year. They had got married in April, 2018.
Kaul, who is working with a multinational company, is currently residing in Delhi with her parents.
“I want to learn new things as it is a major shift for me from the corporate culture I am so used to, to the disciplined culture of armed forces,” she was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
“I took my own time to recover from the major loss and the decision to sit for the Short Service Commission examination happened gradually. Just filling the form in September last year was a big decision. But I had decided that I want to walk on a similar path like my husband,” she added.
