Mosman Art Prize Entries

Artists wishing to join the ranks of Mosman Art Prize luminaries can start brushing up their entries for the 2023 competition.

Entries can be submitted online from 29 May until 4 August for the acquisitive award, with a major prize of $50,000 on offer.

The prize has been won by scores of renowned artists including Guy Warren, Grace Cossington Smith, Weaver Hawkins, Nancy Borlase, Lloyd Rees, Anthony Galbraith, Elisabeth Cummings, Tim Johnson, Guan Wei and Michael Zavros among many others.

Winning artworks over the years have provided Mosman with a seminal collection of modern and contemporary Australian art, reflecting developments in Australian art practice.
The annual exhibition for the 2023 finalists will take place from 23 September until 29 October at Mosman Art Gallery.

A $50,000 first prize is up for grabs in this year’s Mosman Art Prize.

Convert to Electric

As part of its commitment to reducing its operational emissions to zero, Council has been supporting its cleaning contractors to convert petrol powered blowers to battery powered.

A charging station has been established at the Council Depot where batteries are charged by renewable energy sourced from 11 kWh rooftop solar panels and 14 kWh battery storage which were recently installed at the depot.

Council is encouraging residents to install rooftop solar and convert their home garden tools to electric to reduce noise and minimise environmental impact.

Community Champions

About 50 representatives from community and sports groups, schools, volunteers and keen residents came together this month to collaborate to create positive change and outcomes for the local community.

Attendees at the two-day free workshop learned how to identify community strengths, turn conversations into actions and find creative solutions to challenges.

Equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to become a Mosman Community Champion, participants will now continue to look at addressing community issues through teamwork and cooperation over the months ahead.

Author Talk

Direct from New York and in one of her only Sydney events, Australian journalist Mikki Brammer will talk about her sparkling debut novel which has excited the publishing world, The Collected Regrets of Clover, at Barry O’Keefe Library.

The life-affirming novel turns the normally taboo subject of death into a reason to celebrate life long after readers turn the final page as a captivating study in loneliness, friendship and compassion.

The rights to the debut novel have been sold to 23 countries, with Australia and the US the first to release the book this month.

Mikki Brammer will be in conversation with Suzanne Leal, author of The Deceptions and other novels and a regular presenter at literary events and festivals.

Book for purchase and signing from Constant Reader on the evening, 7pm on Wednesday 7 June. Prepaid online bookings essential. Visit events.mosman.nsw.gov.au/author to book.

Car Seat Checks

Mosman residents can still apply for a free professional installation or inspection of their child car restraints by an authorised restraint fitter at their home.

A limited number of vouchers is available until the end of the month for the service, which aims to improve the safety of children travelling in cars by ensuring child seats, harnesses and booster seats are fitted correctly.

The voucher covers the fitting of up to three seats per household after an appointment is made with the fitter.

To learn more about Council’s local road safety initiatives or apply for a car seat inspection and fitting voucher visit mosman.nsw.gov.au/safety and fill in an application form.
