We have HUGE news for local foodies looking for a swish dining experience with sweeping views of Sydney Harbour.

Me-Gal, the stunning restaurant located within the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga Zoo, will open to the public for the first time on Thursday 30 March.

The menu is focussed on native and local ingredients, with diners choosing medium or large plates.

For the past three years, the elegant venue has been the exclusive domain of hotel guests, who’ve enjoyed a five-star meal in iconic surrounds, with floor to ceiling windows showcasing panoramic views of the city, Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Run by Catering giant Trippas White, Me-Gal (named after the Cammeraigal word for ‘tears’) is led by Executive Chef Stefan Schroder, who has designed a menu that showcases native and sustainable local produce.

Menu highlights include a 12-hour slow cooked Flinders Island lamb.

Diners will find medium and larger plates on offer, along with a seasonal feast ($120 pp) for larger groups.

Highlights include char-grilled Skull Island Tiger Prawns, 12-hour slow roasted Flinders Island lamb and stuffed Zucchini flowers with wattle seed ricotta.

“We wanted to develop a destination dining experience which is aligned with the Wildlife Retreat experience,” General Manager, Hoanh Giang, said.

The wine list is designed around classics like Henschke, Penfolds, Yabby Lake, Leeuwin Estate and Oakridge, alongside a selection of vegan, organic, biodynamic and sustainable wines — most of which are available by the glass.

Local Pro Tip: Diners can enjoy a meal at Me-Gal without paying the entrance price to Taronga Zoo!

The cocktail list follows an Australian theme, featuring native and botanical ingredients and local spirits.

With its stunning terrace overlooking Sydney Harbour, Me-Gal is sounding like the perfect Friday night spot for some sundowners followed by dinner.
