Liverpool have announced that they have completed the signing of Tony Gallacher from Falkirk. Gallacher, a product of Falkirk’s academy, made 17 first-team appearances for the Scottish outfit this term and the 18-year-old defender’s performances put Liverpool on red alert.
It’s understood the Merseyside giants have agreed a £200,000 fee for Gallacher who spent a week with Liverpool’s academy earlier this month.
Manchester United and Barcelona were also keeping close tabs on the highly-rated defender ahead of his move to Anfield this January. Gallacher is in line to make his Liverpool youth team debut for the Under-23 side against Derby this weekend.
The youngster arrives at Liverpool just a day after Jurgen Klopp claimed the club were unlikely to make any more signing this January. ‘It’s not really likely,’ Klopp said ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup clash with West Brom.
Klopp, though, hinted that Danny Ings may be allowed to leave on loan before the January Transfer window closes. Asked about Ings, the German responded: ‘I don’t think a lot of things will happen in the next few days, but if [it does] I’ll call you immediately, of course,
’ ‘I can’t forget our needs – we have a lot of games to come.’
‘What I don’t like about the January transfer window, is that very often it feels like the season is over and we didn’t use players in the first half of the season so why do you need them in the second part? We have to plan a full year and that’s what we did.
‘Maybe if Danny could go somewhere where he could start the next 20 games, would it be perfect for him? I’m not sure. Of course, it wouldn’t be bad to have the opportunity to start a few more games.’
