The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and United have already triggered a 12-month extension in his contract.
Fellaini’s thrived at Old Trafford since Mourinho’s appointment and the Portuguese boss is determined to keep the Belgian at the club.
The former Everton man is happy at Old Trafford but he’s minded that this will likely be his last big contract in football and he has offers on the table from Turkey.
Fellaini’s representatives are in talks with United officials but they’re believed to have turned down the club’s opening offer, according to the Telegraph.
United are confident that they will eventually make a breakthrough but they are likely to have to accelerate talks given Fellaini is free to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs in January.
The club are also working hard on a new deal for Ander Herrera but they have a 12-month contract extension in place for him.
The Red Devils face Huddersfield on Saturday and Herrera is expected to start in the absence of Fellaini, who remains sidelined with a knee injury.
