At least 91 passengers have been hit with what is believed to be Norovirus on the first day of a 10-day cruise.
The illness struck passengers on the Sun Princess leaving them vomiting and with diarrhoea during the Cruise across the South Pacific.
he outbreak comes after the same Ship had two outbreaks during separate trips in February.
Health authorities in Queensland, Australia, confirmed that there were ‘at least 91 cases of gastro [gastroenteritis]’ on the ship, which docked in the city of Brisbane on Thursday.
A spokeswoman said: ‘We have been advised that on-board testing has found Norovirus to be the cause of the illness.’ Metro Uk reports
According to a spokesman for Carnival Cruises, the operator of the cruise, the ship underwent ‘deep cleansing’ while in Brisbane yesterday before departing again.
The spokesman said: ‘Proactive and successful steps were taken on board Sun Princess to limit any spread of the illness.
‘The first case was reported on day one of the cruise, suggesting the illness was introduced to the ship during embarkation in Brisbane.’
He added that the Norovirus was currently widespread in eastern Australia and it had claimed the lives of two elderly people at a care home in Brisba
