More about the “Tips & Talk” at OFSC

We are enjoying a good response to the weekly Wednesday “Tips & Talk” series at the Oakland FamilySearch Center. In weeks to come, you will hear from some of the volunteers who are leading these sessions. Today, some thoughts from Jane Lindsey, a former CGS president who launched “Tips & Talk” earlier this year.

Jane Lindsey here! I have been a CGS member for over 20 years., I have served as president; chaired many committees, and I was the local host committee chair for the NGS 2022 conference in Sacramento .

In 2018, before the pandemic happened, ten CGS members began volunteering at the Oakland Family History Center as a response to a request to lend our expertise to help patrons who visit the library. Many of
us enjoyed it so much that we are now volunteering weekly.

This year we initiated a pilot program in March called “Tips & Talk.” Every Wednesday classes are offered to library patrons and open to all, including CGS members. As well as opportunities to learn some new “tips and tricks” in genealogy, this is also a chance to meet in person, get reacquainted, and make new friends.

I hope you will look over the calendar and come to some of the sessions. And plan to bring your lunch then stay and use the many resources available. And there is FREE parking! I would be happy to answer any questions about the series and would love any suggestions you might have for future class topics. Email: Jane Lindsey
