Yoga is to be Included as a NET Subject: UGC

The University Grant Commission (UGC) decided to put Yoga as a subject for National Eligibility Test (NET). This was proposed by the Committee of Yoga Guru HR Nagenddra, VC Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samasthana Bengaluru in order to make one of the promising career options.

After NDA Government, Yoga is highlighted in the country and also added as a subject in the school and universities. Soon this will also add in the syllabi of IITs. Graduates in Yoga will now eligible to become as a faculty member in higher education institute and research fellowships in leading universities after successfully clearing NET exam.

In 12th five year plan, yoga and Sanskrit will give more importance. It is also planning to call yoga experts as guest lecturers from some reputed institutes such as Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogapeeth. For this they will be paid as per the UGC norms.

This will be implemented from this academic year i.e. June 2017. Till today, approx 52 institutes throughout the country, where Yoga is being taught and 16 offers an MA degree as well.

Yoga is followed across the country since ages. This has now become tradition. According to the decision of adding Yoga as a subject and accepting it by all the universities, it will bring more uniformity in this regard.
