Generally API standards are reviewed and revised, reaffirmed, or withdrawn atleast every 5 years. Sometimes a one-time extension of upto 2 years will be added to this review cycle. These standards are not intended to obviate (preclude) the need for applying sound engineering judgment regarding when and where these standards should be utilized.

Each edition, revision or addenda to this API standard may be used beginning with the date of issuance shown on the cover page for that edition, revision, or addenda.
