How long does It take to Rank in Google?

It’s the one question that every website owner wants to be answered. Unfortunately, things are not exactly black and white when it comes to Google ranking. There are so many variables to take into account that the answer you’ll hear most often is ‘It depends.’ But don’t lose hope just yet. A comprehensive Ahrefs may be able to give us a more concrete answer after all.

The Ahrefs team first took 2 million random keywords and pulled data on the top 10 ranking pages for each of them in order to determine how old the top-ranking pages are. The data analysis showed that the average Top 10 ranking page is over 2 years old, while those ranked at 1st position are almost 3 years old on average.

The study also clearly demonstrated that the search engine results page (SERP) is dominated by ‘old’ pages. In fact, no more than 22% of pages that currently rank in the Top 10 were created within 1 year.

To answer the question of how it takes for a page to rank in Google, Ahrefs looked at 2 million randomly selected pages that were first seen by their crawler a year ago. Next, they tracked the position history of each page for any keyword that page is ranked for. Want to know what they found out? Then don’t miss the infographic below by The Website Group!
