Investor Visa To Australia Update: Victoria Open Its Nomination in September 2021

UPDATE: Victoria is Now Open for Investor and Significant Investor Streams Subclasses 188B and 188C Visa Nomination

Update for Investor Visa to Australia is announced on 14 September 2021 and the State Government of Victoria opens its nomination for Investor Visa, namely subclass 188B and 188C. Previously on 20 April 2021, Victoria Government announced that it closed the nomination program for Business Innovation and Investment (subclass 188) Visa.

Victoria’s provisional Investor Visa to Australia (188 B) and provisional Significant Investor visa 188 C nomination programs for 2021-22 are now open.

Those who received a Victorian government nomination for an Investor visa to Australia or Significant Investor visa 188 C prior to 1 July 2021 are not affected by these changes even if their visa is still in process.

What is Investor Visa 188 B and Significant Investor Visa 188 C?

Investor Visa to Australia subclass 188 B

Investor Visa to Australia is a visa only available for applicants nominated by the Australian State or Territory government. This visa is a 5 year temporary visa.

After the applicants maintain investment for 4 years, then the applicant can apply for a permanent residence through the Business Innovation and Investment (Residence) Subclass 888 visa. The applicants can be either inside or outside Australia to lodge this visa.

Significant Investor Visa subclass 188 C

The Significant Investor Visa 188 C allows you to bring your family to live in Australia. The applicant should be able to invest at least $5 million, and you must also have $200,000 for your living expenses. This significant investor visa 188 C is a visa that is only available for the applicants who are nominated by the Australian State or Territory government.

The applicant must lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SkillSelect system. This visa is a 5-year temporary visa. After the applicants maintain investment for 4 years, the applicant can apply for a permanent residence through the Business Innovation and Investment (Residence) Subclass 888 visa. The applicants can be either inside or outside Australia to lodge this visa.

Significant changes to the program have been in line with the Department’s changes to the investment requirements for Investor Visa to Australia 188 B and Significant Investor Visa 188 C to Victoria, Australia.

What are the major changes in 2021 to the Investor Visa 188 B and C?

Investor Visa to Australia 188 B

  • Complying investments of A$2.5million (held for the duration of the provisional visa);
  • Minimum Skill Select points score of 80;
  • No requirement to make any additional investments;
  • No requirement to invest in Designated Investment Bonds;
  • All complying with Venture Capital and Private Growth Equity funds (VCPE) investments must be made into Victorian-based funds.

Significant Investor Visa 188 C

  • Updated Complying Investment Framework for complying investments of A$5 million (held for the duration of the provisional visa);
  • All complying with Venture Capital and Private Growth Equity funds (VCPE) investments must be made into Victorian-based funds.

What are the requirements and how to apply for Investor Visa to Australia 188 B and Significant Investor Visa 188 C?

State Nomination Investor Visa to Australia 188B

The applicants must meet the Department of Home Affairs requirement. The applicants must also:

  • Propose net assets of at least $2.5 million invested in complying investment as specified by the Department of Home Affairs;
  • Agree to re-invest $2.5 million complying investment into any Victoria assets upon maturity of the complying investment;
  • Applicants and any family members (dependents) residing in Australia are required to live and study in Australia.

To apply for Victorian Investor stream (subclass 188B) visa nomination, you must:

  • Make an Expression of Interest with SkillSelect;
  • Prepare your evidence to support your application;
  • Review the Supporting Information;
  • Submit a nomination application via the Live in Melbourne portal;
  • Respond to any requests for further information within 2 weeks.

State Nomination Significant Investor Visa 188 C

The applicants must meet the Department of Home Affairs requirement. The applicants must also:

  • Propose net assets of at least $5 million invested in complying investments as specified by the DHA;
  • Agree to re-invest the $5 million complying investment into any Victoria assets upon maturity of the complying investment;
  • Applicants and any family members (dependents) residing in Australia are required to live and study in Victoria.

To apply for Victorian Significant Investor stream (subclass 188C) visa nomination, you must:

  • Make an Expression of Interest with SkillSelect;
  • Prepare your evidence to support your application;
  • Review the Supporting Information;
  • Submit a nomination application via the Live in Melbourne portal;
  • Respond to any requests for further information within 2 weeks.

If you received a nomination from the Victorian Government for an Investor or Significant Investor visa prior to 1 July 2021, these changes do not affect you. It includes where you are waiting for your visa to be processed by the Department of Home Affairs.
