Update for PMSOL: New Occupations Added to the List

On 22 June 2021, The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs announced 22 new occupations added to Pmsol (Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List), which brings the PMSOL to 41 in total. The expansion follows feedback from Australian business stakeholders and industry bodies on critical skill vacancies that require filling.

The PMSOL was initially launched in September 2020 in collaboration with the National Skills Commission to ensure that a small number of important occupations are filled to continue to create jobs in Australia and aid in the country’s recovery from COVID-19.

Positive Response on the Expansion of PMSOL

Positive responses have come from industry leaders following the announcement of 22 new occupations added to the PMSOL. Quarantine Expenses for Australian Visa Holders

On the same day, the Department also announced two other changes related to quarantine expenses. The Department announced that quarantine expenses would be the visa holder’s responsibility. It includes visa holders who have been sponsored by an Australian business in a PMSOL occupation. However, the Department will prioritize those in occupations on the PMSOL.

In addition, the existing skilled migration occupation lists will remain active, and visa application will still be processed.

What happens if your occupation is listed in PMSOL?

If you are planning to work in Australia and your occupation is listed in PMSOL, you will have the chance to be prioritized by the Department. This is due to your occupation being urgently and critically needed in Australia to support Australia’s recovery from the COVID-19 Pandemic.

However, if your occupation is not listed in the PMSOL, do not lose hope! The Department will keep processing your visa application. Please note that during the COVID-19 Pandemic, visa processing time might change, so your visa application might be longer than the prediction. In addition, all visa application processes are on a case-by-case basis, so your circumstances will affect your application as well.
