ASEAN Countries Now have Access to a New Agricultural Visa

The Federal Government recently has announced a plan to issue an Agricultural Visa to ensure that Australian farmers have access to the labor force they require today and in the future.

The introduction of a new seasonal farm worker visa, according to Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud, will be a tremendous help to the agriculture industry, which has been crying out for a solution.

Keen to work on a farm in Australia? Let’s find out more about this new update below.

New Agricultural Visa

Recently, the Federal Government of Australia has delivered a New Agricultural Visa which includes South-East Asian workers. The new visa, which will be available to ten nations throughout the region, is intended to solve increasing worker shortages in the industry.

The announcement comes after Australia agreed to eliminate a requirement for British backpackers to work on farms to extend their working holidays, under an in-principle free trade deal with the UK.

The decision is expected to result in the loss of up to 10,000 British residents from Australia’s seasonal agricultural labor each year. Travel limitations imposed by the COVID-19 epidemic have already had a significant impact on the workforce.

Agricultural visa holders would be permitted to come for three years, work for up to nine months in a one-year period, and then return to their home country for three months under the farm visa conditions, according to the government.
