One-Way Van Rental

Looking for a cargo van rental for your move?

If you’re Moving a small amount, you might be interested in renting a Cargo Van. Of course, driving a cargo van is much easier than driving a moving truck long distance – but the problem comes in finding one to rent. Many companies won’t rent one-way cargo van rentals. Let’s take a closer look at which companies offer cargo van one-way rentals, and alternatives to moving that don’t involve driving a truck.

Who offers cargo van rental one way?

Unfortunately, none of the big 4 truck rental companies do one-way van rentals.

  • U-Haul has cargo vans, but they only do local rentals for them.
  • Ryder only does round-trip rentals, so they don’t have any one-way van options.
  • Budget does not carry any cargo vans in their lineup.
  • Penske does not offer van rentals.

So where can you get a cargo van for a one-way rental? You might be able to contact your local car rental locations and find one there, however, be aware that one-way rentals will be much more costly than renting and returning to the same location.

So how can you move your belongings when you don’t need a big rental truck?

Check out U-Pack®. U-Pack is a service where you pack and load, but we handle all the driving. That means your stuff is delivered door-to-door and you don’t have to drive it. The best part is, if you were planning on filling a cargo van, you’ll likely find our minimum space to be just right.

One-way cargo van alternatives

U-Pack offers two different types of equipment: ReloCube containers and moving trailers. Take a look at how they compare:

  • A typical cargo van has capacity around 250 cubic feet.

  • A U-Pack ReloCube is a 6’ x 7’ x 8’ metal container with a loading capacity of approximately 305 cubic feet. Cubes sit at ground level for easy loading, and they have tie-down points throughout, so you can secure your belongings.

  • Our moving trailers are bigger (28’ x 8’ x 9’), however, you can use as little as 5 linear feet of space. For our minimum space, it’s an area of 5’ x 8’ x 9’, with around 360 cubic feet of space.

Either way, when you move one-way with U-Pack, you don’t have to drive. We deliver the equipment to your home, you load it up, and then we drive it across the country to your new home. It’s easier than trying to track down a cargo van rental, and it frees you up to travel however you want instead of being behind the wheel of the van the entire time. Sound like a good option? Save money with U-Pack

If you were considering a one-way van rental because of the low price, don’t worry! There are several ways to save with U-Pack:

Fuel. You may not have been considering that your one-way cargo van rental cost doesn’t include fuel. While the empty van would get around 20 mpg, a full van would get less than that. The cost of fuel is extra on top of your rental rate—and if you consider the long drive, you’ll be stopping to fill up frequently.

With U-Pack, fuel is included in the moving quote. So there are no surprises at the pump.

Money saving options. If you’re looking to cut your costs with U-Pack, we have a few options. While the standard U-Pack move includes door-to-door delivery, you can choose to load, unload (or both) at the nearest service center to you . If you’re moving a small amount, it might make sense to bring your belongings to the local service center for a big cost savings.

Flexible space. The best part about U-Pack is the flexibility. If you choose the ReloCube option, you can reserve as many as you think you’ll need, but you only pay for the ones you actually use. So that means if you’re not sure if you need one or two containers, reserve two. On moving day, if you’re able to fit it all in one Cube, you only pay for one.

With the trailer option, you can use as little as 5 linear feet or up to the entire trailer, in one linear foot increments. Your moving quote includes a “per foot rate” so you can see the cost of each additional foot of space. Customers love the flexibility.
