Use your local news station & newspapers – Get mentioned!

Become A Locksmith Media News Expert or Guest Expert

Local News Stations and newspapers are always doing stories on break-ins, security, and safety. A locksmith makes a great go-to “expert” to feature in their articles and news stories. Make sure you local news knows you are in the area, in business, and an EXPERT in the field. Take a few minutes and create a simple email and send it to all the newsrooms and places that may need you as an industry expert. Getting your locksmith company mentioned in the local news in a positive way will increase your business overnight and provide you with a steady stream of service calls for a while.

We have created a sample Letter Template or Sample Email you can send to local Media outlets like your local TV news stations, Local Newspapers, and News Radio Stations. You can use as is and simply replace the company information with your name. You may want to edit the sample using MS Word or copy and paste in an email and edit it to include your own unique touch. Include your area of specialties! an example of what is hot in most media stories is home break ins, automotive break ins, and home security in general. News stations also do negative stories on locksmiths – You could be the trusted local locksmith that warns consumers of the “Nationwide $15 Locksmith Scams”. The goal here is to come across as a resource and a goto guy or gal for the news stations, not to blatantly advertise to them. Be the expert!

Be on the look-out for opportunities to interview with local and national reporters. Contact local radio, television, and newspaper companies and offer your expertise on newsworthy topics.

Protip: When speaking to the media about the field – speak in layman’s terms, talking with the media is not like talking to a client on a sale or talking to another loksmith, avoid using locksmith terminology that is confusing. For example use basic part names or common part or tool names – Don’t say “Rake A Lock Opened” or “Rake Pick” unless they ask about rake picking, just say “Lock Pick Tool”.  Keep in simple but flash a few bits of lock lingo that is easy to understand. Quick informative and interesting dialogs are what media and news stations like. They may interview you for 5 minutes and only use 12 seconds of your answers. Be natural and not robotic – just be yourself!
