5 tips to help you with public speaking

You develop, learn and sometimes forget about the basics of self-presentation. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a small circle of friends or in an Audience with hundreds of listeners. Conversation in the presence of people is an art, a talent that needs to be developed.

We know about such masters of the world as Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, Fidel Castro. They had an interesting life destiny and were able to share their stories with others. What can you take from this? Tell your own stories, share your experiences. Understand that any talent or skill needs to be developed. To do this, we have collected 5 tips to help you improve your public speaking skills.

1. Get ready and repeat

Rehearsal – the secret of a successful performance. Even the most prominent speakers repeat their stories before the performance. This can be done in several ways: in front of a mirror, during a walk or in the morning for breakfast. Repeat the material aloud, improvise and improve the main message you want to convey to the audience.

Why do we emphasize rehearsals? Practice shows that poorly prepared speeches lead to failure. If you notice that someone in the hall scrolls the news feed on the phone, looks at the ceiling or looks out the window, understand that they are not interested in your Speech. Only with the preparation before the speech will you understand which information is better to present and which is easy to delete.

2. Study your audience

Despite preparing the material and rehearsals, understand who your audience is and what it wants. Ask a few questions: to whom will you tell what the audience is doing and interested in, how to grab their attention… In fact, there are many questions, you need to start from the need. Most people do not take listeners into account when creating a speech. If you really want to interact with the people you speak to, try to find out as much information as possible about them.
Your goal is to understand the audience before the performance and give them what they want to hear.

3. Be equal to the people you perform

Your language should be simple, straightforward and understandable. The easier you talk, the more people will understand you. Remember that a good speech is based on an explanation of real situations, promises and figures.

4. Form matters

Explaining information is as important as the content itself. These include the speaker’s personality, manner of conversation, interaction with the audience, eye contact, voice, Body Language. Even if you tell the best idea in the world, no one will appreciate it if it is badly presented. On the other hand, even the simplest thoughts can be presented grandly. Therefore:

  •  Maintain eye contact;
  • Use intonation to highlight key ideas;
  • Follow body language.

5. Why you? Why are they?

Your presentation should help establish a strong connection with the audience. What do you want to tell about yourself? How to introduce yourself? Why are you telling this topic? Do you have practical experience in the topic you are talking about? Why should the audience listen to you? What will you interest them?
Make your presentation interactive. Communicate with the audience from time to time, be interested in their opinion, start a short dialogue. This will help you to open the topic and present it to the audience in an interesting way.

5 short tips will help you feel confident and know exactly what you are going to say. Remember to practice: rehearsals and regular performances to always hone your skills.
