Draw Poker – How To Play Poker?

How to play poker?

How to play poker? ... How to play poker?

There are many different variants of Poker... the most popular variant is NLHE (No Limit Texas Hold'em). Each player is dealt 2 "hole cards" (face down which only they can see) and there are 5 "community cards" (face up in the middle of the table that everyone can see). You have to combine your 2 hole cards with the 5 community cards to form the best 5 card combination.

The best hand is a royal flush: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, all of the same suit.
Next best is a straight flush, then quads, then a full house, then a flush, then a straight, then trips, then 2 pairs, then 1 pair, then high cards.

You make bets on each street about who has the best hand. When facing a bet, you can fold (give up), call (match the bet) or raise (make the bet bigger). When you are first to act and there is no bet, you can check (pass the action through), bet (make a bet) or fold (but it's pointless to fold when you can check instead).

There are plenty of videos online that can show you how to play poker in more detail. Good luck!

I personally like the five card draw version found on most video poker games. I learned to play as a kid with a slot-machine type plastic game. Look for free versions for your phone or computer. Candystand-dot-com used to have a fun free version. Experience (playing free games) will help you know which hands are better than others, without blowing any real money. Good luck.

First, figure out which version you want to play. The basic variations are:
Draw Poker (you are dealt five cards, and can exchange some of them)
stud poker (you are dealt one or two cards (the hole cards) face down -- the other players can't see them -- and three to five face up -- other players can see them.
hold'em poker ( you are dealt two to four cards face down; then five or so cards are placed in the middle -- these are used with your hole cards to form poker hands).

The best hand (using five cards in all variants, hole or other) is the winning hand.

That's the obvious part of the game. But the thrill is in the betting on each hand, where you can decide to play or fold, depending on your evaluation of whether you have a chance of winning or not. The betting part is done in a number of stages, depending on the variation you are playing, and can get rather complex to explain.

Poker is too difficult.
