how would i make money off of hosting a poker game?

how would i make money off of hosting a poker game? ... i saw that in certain movies (mostly mafia based) the main guys would host card games and other gambling events to make money. how did they make money off of hosting these kinds of events?

They'd take a cut of all winnings. So you could make yours 10% if you have a nice place set up or less if its pretty basic. That's if it's poker. This is a player vs. player game.

If its blackjack then the house takes all losings. If you know how blackjack works then you'll understand. This is the same with all player vs. house games.

But just remember places where this type of gambling takes place always have good security because matters involving Money can make people quite emotional especially when drinking is involved.

There are several ways.

1. Charge an hourly sitting fee. The higher the stakes of the game, the higher you can charge to sit. If you were charging $5 per hour, and you had a table with 5 guys playing, you would be making $25/hour just for hosting the game.

2. Rake the games. This is what casinos generally do at poker cash game tables. Usually 5% of each pot. So when the pot reaches $20, the house keeps $1 in "rake". To keep you from having to use a calculator between hands, just use set increments. Example:

-Less than $20 pot = no rake
-If the pot reaches $20 = $1 rake
-If the pot reaches $30 = $1.50 rake
-If the pot reaches $40 = $2 rake
-Max rake is $2 in any pot.

Obviously, the rake is going to be based on stakes. If you are playing penny ante poker, then not many pots are going to reach $20+

3. Tournament "fee". If you are playing tournament style (ie. everyone pays $10 to start with 1000 chips and when you bust out, you are out of the tournament. Winner keeps all or top 3 spots pay, etc)... If you are playing that style, you can charge a fee to enter.

This is common in casinos and online, and the fee is typically 10% of the buy in. So if the tournament is a $10 buyin, then you label it as $10 + $1. So they pay $11 to enter. $10 goes to the prize pool. $1 goes to the house.

Finally, a word of caution. Home games are generally ignored by the authorities, at least where I am from. But if the host (you) starts making money off the games, especially if they are higher stake games, then you risk getting into a good bit of trouble, as you go from having a friendly home game, to running a mini-casino.

To avoid that, you could just make it clear to everyone that if they want to kick in a donation, they are welcome to do so. If you are springing for the drinks and snacks, it is the least they should do.

If you're playing a cash game, I'd suggest Limit instead of NL. Tempers are far more likely to flare if you play NL, because there's 'friendly game' and then there's losing all your money to some schmuck you never met when he called your all-in because "6 is his lucky number!" Remember, in a cash game blinds don't change, rebuys are always allowed, and it's a good idea to limit the buy-in amount, so that one guy doesn't sit down with 8x what everyone else has. $0.25/$0.50 is about right if you're all sitting down with $50ish, otherwise you may want to scale back to $0.10/$0.25. If you want to play NL, play it Sit-n-Go style. That way everyone is risking $10 or $20 (or whatever) for an hour or hour-n-a-half, probably less with 5 guys, and you can pay out 70%-30%. If that's what you play, go with $1500 for whatever buy-in you use, start blinds at $25/$50, and double every 15 minutes. And MAKE SURE you set the house rules in advance, and tell everyone in advance that YOU will be the final arbitor of disputes. These guys haven't played together, and EVERY house game tends to have a few funky rules of it's own.

A lot of interested traders are asking themselves the question if you can really make money with binary options? The answer is that you can indeed make money in binary options trading. Learn here https://tr.im/8lcIz

Obviously this is a perfectly legitimate question considering that most people have not traded binary options in the past and generally believe that investing is a very difficult activity.

However, you will have to put an effort into it. You will have to learn money management, reading of charts as well as the usage of indicators.

Parties and poker games make great fronts for illegal activities. If you got people stopping at your house all day long it's pretty obvious that you're selling drugs. If, however, you have a party and various people come and stay for a couple hours it doesn't look so shady.

Either take a cut of the winnings, buy-ins or rake for hands played(last one only works if it is a sit and go play)

Rake from the pot (illegal), or perhaps a buy in to get in the game (also illegal).
