Ebonyi State Police Command said it has arrested a Syndicate that specializes in producing fake examination results for Ebonyi State University, EBSU, students.

In a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Jude Madu, the command gave the names of the members of the syndicate as Harrison Ovigwe Igwoku, Okechukwu Ugo Ani and Franklin Okafor.

According to him, the syndicate made over N700,000 from unsuspecting students of the institution. Madu said the syndicate, who impersonated a staff of Result Data Base, RDB, of Ebonyi State Staff University, Abakaliki was arrested by the State Intelligence Bureau, SIB, of the state police command.

The Police Spokesman added that the arrest of the syndicate was necessitated by a written complaint by the Vice Chancellor of the university to the Commissioner of Police that one Ani Okechukwu a.k.a Chuks, whose name is fake, claimed he was in charge of students results in the university and could upgrade results of those who have problems and facilitate their graduation.

“To perpetrate this act, the said fake Ani Okechukwu used First Bank Account Number and GSM number registered with another person’s name. Other fake names used by the fraudsters include; Ebube, Theophilus and Peter”. Vanguard
