CNN's "New Day Weekend" show taps FAMU grad as Executive Producer

Sidney Wright
IV, a 2008 FAMU journalism graduate, has been named the Executive Producer of “New Day Weekend” with Victor Blackwell and Christi Paul at CNN. Wright is responsible for organizing and producing multiple hours of live news coverage for CNN’s weekend morning show.

“It’s a lot to take in sometimes with this responsibility, but I feel really good and my team is incredible. This has felt like a natural progression for me, so I’ve been able to step in and keep the train going,” said Wright.

Over his 15-year career Wright has had the ability to gain experience in almost every realm of journalism. Since leaving “The Hill” he has had the ability to produce news on the national and local level. While also gaining knowledge inside the newsroom and out in the field.

In his new role he oversees all aspects of the broadcast while maintaining all administrative and editorial duties, and is responsible for the direction of the show, guests, and production. He leads a team of more than a dozen producers, editors, and writers.

Wright got his start in Tallahassee, but quickly made the leap to national stage working as an associate producer for ABC’s “World News Tonight” with Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer.

While a student, Wright served as Editor-In-Chief of the Famuan student newspaper.
