A Disability can alter your capability to thrive and support yourself. There are options available for people who find themselves in this situation. If you are disabled, you may be able to receive benefits to help you live a full, happy life.
Financial Support for Those with Disability
If you are a disabled adult, you may be eligible to receive financial support through the following programmes:
- Disability Support Pension
You must be between 16 years and pension age and have a medical condition that does not allow you to work for this benefit. There are residency requirements as well as income and asset tests that must be completed. To apply, you will need to submit a form along with medical evidence and supporting documentation.
- Mobility Allowance
This benefit is intended for those who are 16 years of age and older who cannot use public transit without assistance. The standard rate is $94.10 fortnightly to cover travel to and from work, study, training, or to look for employment.
- Pensioner Education Supplement
If you receive certain pension payments from the government or the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, you may be eligible for this supplemental benefit. This benefit is intended for those who are studying a graduate or undergraduate course, secondary course, TAFE course, or obtaining their diploma. Certain Masters courses are also eligible.
