How to Deal With Slow Winter Homes Sales

Even great agents can have slow sales during the winter season. Sometimes it is just not avoidable. However, during a slow Winter Sales Period there are things that you can do to make sure that you’re keeping your skills current and that you’ll be ready to start selling again as soon as the holiday season is over. Here are a few suggestions from veteran real estate agents for things that you can do during a slow winter sales period to deal with the slowdown: Build Your Brand When you have a little slowdown in sales, you can take advantage of that time to continue building your personal brand. Get more active on social media. Share photos and success stories on your blog or on Pinterest and social media. Connect with other agents and network in the community. Just because you are not selling doesn’t mean there’s no work to do. Take New Photos How old are the photos for your listings? If you’re having a slow winter, it’s a great time to take new photos highlighting the best features of the homes that you’re having trouble getting buyers interested in. A new set of seasonal photos with the house decorated for the holidays might be just what you need to get some interest in a house that has been suffering from a lack of buyer interest. Work On Listings You can also take advantage of that down time to work on your listings. Talk to some colleagues and brainstorm ways that you can make your listing more appealing to potential buyers. Make sure that your listings are being shared on Social Media Sites. Change the wording of your listings or change the way that you present essential information to grab the attention of more buyers. Study New Trends Sometimes you need to just accept that sales are going to be slow during the winter. Instead of moping about slow sales use that time to learn about the new trends that are coming up in the new year and start making plans for how to use those trends in your home staging and in your listings. Watch home design shows. Read home design magazines. Spend some time browsing on Pinterest and Instagram and other social media sites. By immersing yourself in new design information and photos you’ll be filling your creative well. Then when it comes time to incorporate those trends into the homes you’re selling you’ll have a lot of great images and information to pull from. The most important thing to do during a sales slowdown is to keep working and keep focusing on what’s next. Slow months happen to everyone. But if you keep focusing on improving yourself and your brand during that time you’ll be back to selling houses in no time once the holidays are done and over with.
