Any woman who has ever watched one of those domestic goddesses on television or read their glossy magazine drooling over pictures of hand crafted decorations has probably despaired of ever doing anything so beautiful and creative. But now there is a unique service called “Alice’s Table” that is designed to allow every woman to channel her inner Martha and let her creative side take over—even if just for an evening.
Alice’s Table is the brainchild of Alice Lovell Rossiter, who believes that even modern, busy career women enjoy creating something beautiful, particularly when combined with the fun and easy company of other women—and maybe a glass of wine as well!
Her degree in Visual Studies and Consumer Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, and Masters in Art Business from the Southeby’s Institute in New York City, gave Alice all the skills necessary to conceive of and then create her business.
Alice’s Table is currently based on flower arranging as the event activity, but they’re working on ideas for different activities that would fit into this model. Alice’s Table works with interested hosts to secure a venue, if necessary, and provides their signature aprons, vases, scissors, and other necessary items. They run events for organizations for special occasions—perhaps a retirement party, or a team building activity. The events are also unique opportunities for a bridal shower or a birthday party.
Becoming an Event Exec is another opportunity provided through this organization. For a small investment an Event Exec is provided with four training modules in flower arrangement, marketing and sales skills, in addition to all materials necessary to host an event for 20 people, including aprons, buckets, watering cans, etc. Alice’s Table handles all payment processing, customer support, and platform access, and each Exec has a dedicated team member at headquarters. Event Execs take home 70% commission on ticket sales. Alice’s Table estimates that this initial cost can be recouped in the first two or three events.
Alice’s Table was named Improper Bostonian’s 2016 Best Boozy Class and one of Boston Globe’s best new services in 2016. Sounds like a great idea for “Girl’s Night Out,” or a gathering of BFFs!
