Crowdfunding was also one of the main pillars of the event as it aimed to raise the level of awareness of people regarding the Industry. Industry experts were present to help promote the concept of crowdfunding among multiple industry stakeholders. This is because the social funding space is beginning to take traction in Asia and slowly catching up with the rest of the world.
Among the participants, there were the young duo of William and Reinhardt who are still yet to turn 20 years of age. These college students taking up accounting as a major has launched a t-shirt Business that incorporates the use of leather into the overall design of their product. They founded Bellevia and has already started getting a return on their investment.
“Leather industry is timeless,” said Reinhardt and that makes their product a little more sustainable in the years to come. Add the fact that compared to other consumers products being sold in the market, t-shirts tend to have a faster sales cycle and bring in more income on a day to day basis. This already gives a glimpse of how smart these young entrepreneurs are.
They integrated the fast sales cycle of a simple item that people need everyday and the enduring industry of leather. This hybrid in design and application gives their product a unique selling proposition and is also hinged on high consumer need and an industry that seems to only have one direction which is up.
Crowdfunding can help
They also believe that crowdfunding is a big help with small and medium enterprises such as theirs because startups with limited capital can tap into the massive funding potential of the masses in hopes to getting what they need financially. It also allows them to do away with tedious and meticulous business loan applications from traditional lenders.
“You just present the business and people can fund,” they said when showing how easy it is to venture into crowdfunding when in need of funds for a startup business. Social funding might only represent a small percentage in the overall financial need of the business sector but it has been in a steady increase and project initiators are swearing by the effectivity of the medium.
The duo also hopes to be able to increase their limited capital with the help of CoAssets during the event. This would allow them to increase their market share and equity and hopefully be able to venture out to different variations of their products from jeans to shoes and others. They were also very happy that they had the chance to expand their network during the EPIC Surabaya event.
