Blades- Evolution and Significance

The saw blade is a type of a blade which can be in a shape of a wire or a chain consisting of the strong and hard edges. They are in the tooth edged shape. The saw blade works when the sharp edge of the blade is placed over the surface of the material and moved in a certain position. The different saw Blades work differently, such as, some work with electricity, water, steam, or simply by hand.

History/Evolution: These blades were once jagged materials similar to the shark teeth or seashells and obsidian. Their history can be traced back to Egypt. These saw blades were used in the Dynastic Period, around 3100-2686 B.C. at that time, these saw blades were made of copper. Then later bronze and then iron was used in the making of these saw blades. Later the blades with frames were produced.
In the Chinese history the saw blades have evolved from the bone tools or the Neolithic stone. According to them these blades are from the prehistoric times and are grouped with the axes and chisels.
There are different types of Saw Blades all having a different purpose and quality. Some of the blade types are:
  • Handsaw- these are the common type of saw blade used by the hand. These are commonly used to cut the wood.
  • Hacksaw- it has the straight and fine edged blade. It is commonly used for Cutting plastic and metals. Cutting of aluminum can be a little tricky with the Hacksaw as it sticks up on the soft metal.
  • Japanese Saw- these are the pull saws with thin blade. It has the crosscut teeth edge on one side and the ripped edge on the others. It is good for cutting the dense wood.
  • Coping Saw- it is a simple but very useful type of blade. It has a thin blade with the C-shaped frame. The blades can be changed according to the material, like, metal or wood.  It is great for cutting the inside profiles.
  • Bandsaw- it is a very useful saw blade, which cuts both the wood and the metal. It has a high power and is very quiet.
  • Other saws include Miter Saw, Oscillating Saw, table Saw, Circular Saw, and Jigsaw.
The saw blades have a lot of importance as it makes a difficult task easy. Some of those are:
  • They are used for cutting purposes. It can cut any type of material.
  • They are used in the constructions, demolitions, forestry and medicines.
  • Chainsaw carving is the modern type of art.
  • It helps in finishing the task or project on time and makes the cutting of the material easy.
