The Star Trek 50th Anniversary Forever Stamps Are Being Issued September 2

The United States Postal Service has a long history of commemorative Stamps, so you had to know they wouldn’t ignore the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. This Friday, the USPS will issue their set of four Star Trek forever stamps, and we like what we see.

With these stamps, the USPS must have figured the original series was inspiration enough. All four have the look and feel of the ’60s. Two of them feature the Enterprise — our favorite is the ship set against a black silhouette of the Starfleet insignia with a yellow background, but the Enterprise in silhouette on a green background isn’t bad, either. The Vulcan salute with a small Enterprise cruising the cosmos is pretty cool, too. And, the USPS made sure to pay tribute to all the crewmen in red we lost along the way, with an anonymous crew member on a transporter against a red background.

The stamps will be commemorated in a ceremony at the Javits Convention Center in New York this Friday. After that, they’ll go into circulation, and you can collect them or use them to send off your bill payments. We’re kidding, with the second one. Don’t do that, those reds didn’t die to expedite your cable company’s cash flow.

Getting your hands on those stamps is pretty easy. A sheet of 20 can be preordered from USPS for $9.40 right now. Yes, the USPS has preorders for stamps now. We might not be living in the Star Trek future, but at least we have that.
