A Huge Chunk of the PS3 Library Will Soon Be Playable on PC

It’s a good time to be a PC gamer. More and more Xbox One games will be released for both the console and Windows 10, an increasing number of third party games are getting PC ports (the quality of which admittedly varies), and now just about the whole Playstation 3 library is becoming available. Yesterday, Sony announced that their PlayStation Now game streaming service will be available on PC in the coming months, starting in Europe before coming to North America.

While the idea of PS One, PS2, and PSP games has long been floated, PlayStation Now is still restricted to just PS3 games. For PlayStation 4 owners, PlayStation Now is a little annoying — instead of making the PS4 backwards compatible with PS3 game discs, they spun off PS3 games into a subscription service — but it’s now a boon for PC gamers who refrain from buying consoles. They now have access to games that were previously PlayStation exclusives, like The Last of Us and anything in the God of War or Uncharted series that came out for the PS3. Not a bad haul.

Sony is also making the wireless DualShock Controller much easier to use on a PC. It’s always been possible to use a PS4 controller wirelessly using a Bluetooth connection, but third party programs were needed to properly configure the gamepad, unlike the Xbox One controller, which works with most games without requiring any setup. In September, they’ll start selling the DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor, a $25 USB dongle that will facilitate using the DualShock 4 with a PC or Mac (to be clear, PlayStation Now is only coming to the PC, not to Mac). If you don’t mind wired, you can simply plug the DualShock 4 controller in using the USB cable, too.

Pricing for PlayStation Now will be the same as on the PS4 — $20 per month or $45 per three months.
