When I saw the link to this video at first, I was really hoping for some contraption enabling a Hamster running in a wheel to progress in Super Mario Bros. That kind of pro-animal egalitarian technology still eludes us, but this isn’t bad as consolation. Someone built an abbreviated version of World 1-1 of the original Super Mario Bros as a hamster playground, although the lucky hamster still has a ways to go to find his (or her, I don’t know anything about hamsters) princess.
So, I guess the main problem is that this hamster has, like, no hops. At all. That’s a big problem when you’re trying to fill Mario’s shoes and hat, although it looks like this hamster even struggled with the hat part. I feel like with a few more tries, that hamster is definitely going to master getting the little Mario hat on, and I really hope that video gets uploaded, too.
Physical limitations on the legs aside, this hamster does seem to get Mario. The green pipe was immediately recognized as a shortcut/comfy hidey-hole, although it didn’t actually lead anywhere. That’s OK, hamster, that’s not your bad. You tried, and that’s what matters.
Anyway, the hamster then cheeses over the death gap with its superior body length before nestling in front of the castle, victorious. I’d say I hope the hamster got rewarded with a fireworks show, but I feel like the hamster might get spooked. Don’t spook the hamster.
