Pamela Anderson Announced A New Documentary With Netflix In Response To Hulu’s Short Series, Which She Never Actually Provided Consent For

In the 1990s, Pamela Anderson was a rising star. She stole the hearts of viewers with her first major acting role on Tool Time, and her fame grew exponentially after being cast in Baywatch.

Then, in 1994, Pamela met musician Tommy Lee at a New Year’s Eve party, and it did not take long for the pair to fall in love.

In fact, just four days later, the couple were wed on a Cancún beach, where they celebrated their honeymoon immediately afterward.

The whirlwind of career success and budding romance did not last long, though. In 1995, Pamela had to deal with the downfall of her reputation after a tape of her and Tommy was stolen and leaked for the entire world to see.

And while society today is increasingly more accepting of tapes and similar content being posted on platforms such as Only Fans, the public viewed Pamela in an entirely different light almost thirty years ago.

She has had to endure salacious gossip and constant criticism. And now, Pamela has to re-live the scandal all over again.

Earlier this year, Hulu released a short series entitled Pam & Tommy, which reenacts the couple’s honeymoon, tape creation, and leaking.

Starring Lily James as Pamela Anderson and Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee, the controversial series has also been nominated for an Emmy.

But, recent statements made by cast members– specifically Sebastian Stan– are dividing the online community.

In an Instagram post, Sebastian described his gratitude for the opportunity to play Tommy Lee and how thankful he is for an Emmy nomination.

However, he also made some questionable remarks about the show’s intent.

Pam & Tommy is about a crime that took place without consent,” Sebastian wrote. “It was a crime on privacy, a crime on family, and a crime that we were ALL a culprit of– as media and audience combined– and it is now more timely than ever.”

“I hope this can only help continue the conversation we had hoped to bring to light and that we can remember to re-examine our projections and our salacious attitudes not only towards @PamelaAnderson and @TommyLee, but also towards ourselves and our exploitation of one another.”

And while these sentiments are valid, they are also quite hypocritical coming from a starring cast member of a show that did not ever receive consent from Pamela Anderson herself.

That’s right, Hulu never gained the consent of Pamela Anderson to develop this short series.

Instead, the show’s producers were able to create the show without her permission after acquiring the rights to a Rolling Stone tell-all article about the scandal published in 2014.

A source close to Pamela actually told Entertainment Weekly that the star never plans to watch the show. Moreover, the source condemned the producers’ actions.

“Imagine if a celebrity today had their nudes leaked and then Hollywood recreated not just the crime but the actual nudes– that would never happen,” the source said.

“In the ’90s, Pamela’s body was deemed by a judge to be public property. There was no question the tape was stolen property, but the court decided it was not private property because her body belonged to the world.”

And, even in the wake of the #MeToo movement, the source called Pamela an “exception to the rule” in society’s eyes.

So, in response to the Hulu series, Pamela teamed up with Netflix in an attempt to tell her own story once and for all.

Announced on March 2, Netflix advised viewers to leave their biases behind before viewing the documentary.

Baywatch star? Canadian icon? Animal rights activist? Playboy model? Nineties tabloid staple? Forget what you think you know about Pamela Anderson,” the company’s press release began.

“Along with exclusive interviews with Anderson herself, viewers will have access to never-before-seen archival footage and personal journals to unpack her experience in Hollywood and beyond– in her own words this time,” Netflix continued.

The streaming service has not yet announced when the documentary will be released.

However, supporters of Pamela are hopeful that her perspective will be heard and that the never-ending string of judgments against her will finally be laid to rest.
