Her Mother-In-Law Wants To Take Her Terminally Ill Toddler On A Cross-Country Weeklong Vacation Alone, And She Said No

This woman’s Daughter is about to turn three years old, but, unfortunately, the little girl has been battling a plethora of health problems.

Just one month ago, she was put into hospice care even after entering cancer remission back in May.

“Unfortunately, the cancer has returned, except now it is crushing her optic nerve and is about eight centimeters long,” the woman explained.

“Multiple doctors recommended we make our daughter as comfortable as possible as they do not believe removing the tumor is a good option.”

This mom has understandably been utterly heartbroken about the diagnosis. But, in her daughter’s final days, she and her husband have been trying to make enough memories to last a lifetime.

The parents have opted to include family members in some of these activities but have ultimately decided that parent-daughter time is most important at this point.

However, a few days ago, the woman’s mother-in-law announced a vacation that completely disregarded the family’s plans and threw her for a loop.

“She called me and said she booked tickets, a hotel, and airfare for a trip next month,” the woman recalled.

“I thought it sounded fun until she said she was taking our toddler with her. Just her, my daughter, and her husband. She did not invite my husband and me.”

And to clarify, she was not upset about her lack of an invitation at all.

Instead, the woman is vehemently against sending her daughter, who is terminally ill and not even three years old yet, on vacation across the country for an entire week without her parents.

So, the woman’s only suggested compromise was that she and her husband both accompany their daughter but for a shorter amount of time.

“That way, our daughter is comfortable and, for god sakes, in the event she dies? She cannot be gone for a week. Her nurses are here. Her care is here,” she said.

However, after suggesting the solution to her mother-in-law, the woman was completely turned down.

And she became infuriated.

The woman told her mother-in-law that she should have never made travel decisions and arrangements involving her daughter without consulting her and her husband first.

The mother-in-law then had the nerve to call the woman a few choice names and even threatened to fight for parental rights before the daughter passes away.

Now, the woman is being put in an impossible position with so much already on her plate.

“I am already grieving,” the woman added. “My husband said we should acquiesce to his mother’s trip just to avoid drama, even though he agrees our daughter is too young.”

“But, I want to spend time with her before the cancer takes her. I said no for various reasons, not just to say no.”

So, she has been left wondering if refusing to let her daughter go on the trip is the wrong decision.

Do you think the woman has a right to say no? Should her mother-in-law ever have booked a surprise vacation without consulting her first– especially under the circumstances?
