Elon Musk has a long history of cool ideas. One idea led to the mainstreaming of the electric car! One might take us to Mars. His latest is at the heart of The Boring Company — a tunneling enterprise that aims to dig massive underground tunnels to help alleviate car traffic above ground.

There’s just one little problem — Musk’s ideas tend to be on the expensive side. You’re not going to get to Mars on the backs of a few Benjamins! The Boring Company’s huge digging machines aren’t cheap, either, and most of Musk’s money and investor interest is going into Tesla and SpaceX. So, Musk has turned to some, uh, creative fundraising ideas. For a while, he was content to sell Boring Company hats to anyone interested enough to buy one. But, the hats apparently weren’t generating enough revenue, so Musk has stepped it up just a little bit. To flamethrowers.

If you want to get technical, what The Boring Company is selling isn’t a flamethrower that fits the military definition — it looks like it only (“only”) shoots out flames a few feet in front of it. But, spew flames it does, and it’s available for anyone to purchase. Irresponsible? Maybe, but as it turns out, this is something the government seems to be OK with — as many other outlets have noted, flamethrowers are unregulated, so if someone really wanted to get their hands on one, there are plenty others besides Musk selling.

But, those other flamethrowers don’t have the logo of The Boring Company on them, and that’s a big selling point! It’s a big selling point for the companion overpriced (their words, not ours) fire extinguisher, too. It’s at this point we should note this is 100 percent not a joke.
