Alderaan Lives on in This Star Wars Galactic Necklace

We’ve lost a lot of good planets over the decades of Star Wars. Alderaan created a disturbance in the Force in the original trilogy, and then we lost I guess every planet in the Hosnian system in The Force Awakens. The StarKiller Base victims will still have to wait, but at least Alderaan is getting memorialized in necklace form!

ThinkGeek, like so many others, is celebrating Force Friday today. For the uninitiated, Force Friday is the newest commercial holiday — it’s when all the new Star Wars merch for the year either comes out or gets announced. Lego laid it on us heavy, but ThinkGeek has a good showing too. The Star Wars Galactic Necklace is actually a pretty stylish piece of jewelry, accentuated by stones representing a bunch of planets and moons (and things that are not moons) from Star Wars. That includes the destroyed Alderaan, but if you want to mourn the Empire’s losses, the Death Star and a TIE Fighter are on there, too.

The planets and moons represented include Coruscant, Alderaan, Yavin 4, Tatooine, Sullust, Dagobah, Hoth, Endor, and Bespin. There’s also an X-Wing on there to balance out the TIE Fighter, but our favorite addition might be the jagged little stones that represent the asteroid belt that the Millennium Falcon had to finesse its way through.

The chain is 17 inches long, but can be extended to 20 inches long. ThinkGeek didn’t use lame pieces of plastic, either — they’ve used actual stones like jade and agate, along with silver-plated stainless steel on the chain and the ships.

The necklace is based on the Solar Orbit Necklace that ThinkGeek also sells, and fortunately, it doesn’t look like you’ll have to pay a Star Wars tax to get the Galactic Necklace — both cost $40.
