Dinner and drinks with friends? That’s what makes the work week worthwhile. Figuring out the bill and doing the money shuffle? Less fun, especially in the post-Cash era (I’ll be honest with you, I can’t remember the last time I saw actual green in my wallet). Thankfully, there’s a new shade of green I’m seeing on my smartphone, and it’s called Square Cash.
We know, you’ve heard all about payment apps before, but Square Cash rises to the top. Not a fan of the whole world seeing who you’re paying and why? Payments on Square Cash are private and discreet. You don’t even need to give out your real name! Square Cash lets you create a handle called a $cashtag (nice) that you can use for all transactions.
The other person doesn’t even need the app! They can use Square Cash’s browser app by going to cash.me/(your $cashtag). Or, you can send a request straight to someone’s phone using a text message or email — no badgering people to download other apps, no fuss, just green going where it needs to go.
Perfect example — not too long ago, I was out with friends and, more importantly, friends of friends. I know how my friends like their money, but who knows with these guys! With Square Cash, all I needed at the end of the night was phone numbers — and those were going to get shared anyway!
Security won’t be a concern, either. Square Cash is coming from longtime online payment company Square, and they know a thing or two about moving money around. For your part, you’ll be able to secure your mobile wallet with either a passcode or your fingerprint — if your phone gets lost on a night out, you won’t need to frantically call the bank to shut down your debit card.
Square Cash just keeps getting better, too. For all you iPhone users out there (just a few of you, I’m sure), Square Cash now works with Apple Pay. That means Square Cash can become your all-in-one payment app — you can pay Starbucks just as easily as you can pay your friends.
Not convinced? Just give it a shot! It takes seconds to download (iOS, Android) and once you’ve got your name and debit card on there, you’ll be amazed at how clean the user interface is. Payments have never been faster or more convenient, and that’s great news — the best payment apps are the ones that don’t cut into friend time.
