I almost never get to talk about Taco Bell news around here, so I’m going to relish the moment. I’m also going to relish eating a Naked Chicken Chalupa on Thursday, and so should you. Taco Bell actually started spreading the word a couple weeks ago, but with the big day rapidly approaching, we wanted to give you a heads up — knowing Taco Bell, those drive-thru lines are going to be lit.
The Naked Chicken Chalupa is the latest in Taco Bell’s impressive line of food innovations, in the same tradition as the most glorious Doritos Locos Taco, long may it be available. The new hotness is a chalupa stuffed with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and creamy avocado ranch sauce. You will notice no meat was mentioned — that’s because instead of a shell, everything is nestled inside a flattened, marinated piece of chicken molded into the shape of a shell.
Part of the launch is being dedicated to Taco Bell and Yum Brands’ awareness kick — similar to moves McDonald’s has been making. The chicken being used is antibiotics free, and earlier this year, the chain announced they would phase out extra large cups, commit to cage-free eggs, and cut down on sodium levels.
The chain quietly tested the Naked Chicken Chalupa in Bakersfield, CA and Kansas City, MO over the past couple of years, and now it’s been deemed ready for its moment. The Naked Chicken Chalupa will be available at Taco Bells nationwide starting Thursday, and will be available for $2.99. But, that’s whatever, because what you should be getting is the most sublime combination of the Naked Chicken Chalupa with the Doritos Locos Taco, one other chump regular taco, and a medium drink for $5. That’s the meal of fast food Valhalla.
