Disney Princess iMessage Stickers Have Arrived on iOS 10

The iPhone 7 is nice and all, but the real yearly prize is the annual update to iOS. Every iPhone gets marginally better, but the iOS update can add sweet new features that really change the way we use our phones. Case in point — thanks to yesterday’s iOS 10 update, iMessage just got way more fun to use. What was once limited to staid blue and white text bubbles can now be packed with gifs, stickers, new emoji, sparkles, full-screen backgrounds, and whatever else anyone can dream up and put on the iMessage store. And, to our delight (but not our surprise), Disney is one of the first to get in on the action.

To coincide with the release of iOS 10, they’ve put up a whole slew of sticker packs on the new iMessage App Store, and we fear for our wallets. The $1.99 sticker packs are full of animated stickers, probably the most important innovation in communication in centuries. Now that they’re in iMessage, we’re one step closer to all electronic communication being relayed by animated stickers, and we’re very excited about this.

Disney is releasing 11 sticker packs right now. They’re definitely taking advantage of some of the enthusiasm around some of their latest hits, with packs dedicated to Inside OutZootopiaFinding Dory, and Frozen. There’s also a Stitch pack — no Lilo, just Stitch. Disney probably figured that Stitch could carry his own sticker pack, and they were right. The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast are classics getting their own packs, with the rest of Disney’s leading ladies getting stuffed into a Princess pack. Some of Disney’s most lovable dogs and cats (from 101 DalmatiansLady and the Tramp, and Aristocats, among others) is a particularly adorable pack, and of course, Mickey and friends get their own set, too. Star Wars? You bet, although that pack will be coming a little later than the rest.

The packs all include 21 animated stickers, and it’s worth pausing here to point out how awesome animated stickers are in iOS 10. Not only can you send them in-line as normal, you can stick them anywhere in the chat, including on or around other messages. Apple has turned chat into an art form, and we’re all about it.

The sticker packs all cost $1.99 each, which is going to wipe out our wallets in the sneakiest, slowest way possible. Don’t think they won’t come back to finish the job, either — Disney is planning more sticker packs, and we all know they have an almost endless amount of material to draw from. I think we’ve found our new microtransaction addiction.
