South of Voyager Elementary School and north of City Park in Alexandria on the east side of Lake Henry there are the ‘Explorer Streets’. I don’t think that is an official label (the plat name is Summerville Estates) but drive around this neighborhood and you will why it is appropriate. Steger Road (Will Steger), Armstrong Road (Neil Armstrong), Shepard Road (Alan Shepard), Glenn Road (John Glenn), McAuliffe Place (Christa McAuliffe), and Voyager Drive.

Voyager Elementary School opened in 1989 and Discovery Middle School in 1994. Both were named in honor of the NASA programs, Voyager and Discovery.

The Summerville Estates plat was recorded a year after Discovery opened its doors to students and staff. All the homes in Summerville Estates (there were 2 additions in 1996 and 1998) have the advantage of being only a short bike ride to downtown Alexandria and some of the homes along Steger Road have frontage on Lake Henry.
