FARWELL RISING

A friend and classmate that grew up a few blocks from my family’s home on Douglas Street Bought a Church in 2016. Yes, a church. The Norwegian Lutheran Church (circa 1907) is located in Farwell and the friend is Ted Irgens. Ted bought the church as his great grandparents were founding members of the church. Along with the personal connection (his grandfather was raised in Farwell) Ted has an appreciation for architecture and has restored other buildings in need of love from someone with a good eye. After an extensive renovation the church can now be reserved for weddings and events.

Ted reached out to me to see if I would capture some aerial photos of Farwell with my drone as Ted has commissioned an artist to paint a mural on the side of a building in Farwell. Below are a few of the photos from my visit this past weekend.

If you aren’t familiar with Farwell, it is conveniently located about 18 miles southwest of Alexandria and 15 miles northwest of Glenwood. It is a quite little town but Ted’s vision is noticeable. A Standard Oil station is being restored and I was anxious to peek in the windows but there were large pools of water from melted snow that kept me away.
