When looking for a sustainable packaging solution to replace current wax cascaded boxes, growers and packers must select cost-effective alternatives.
Greencoat wax-free corrugated boxes cost less than cascaded wax boxes and enable Fresh Produce Customers to eliminate wax disposal fees of up to $70 per ton and instead receive up to $80 per ton of recycling revenue.

A key requirement for produce boxes is strength and durability in order to effectively ship and protect fresh fruit and vegetables across long and humid transportation routes. Trials continue to demonstrate that Greencoat wax-free boxes are an effective replacement for wax boxes in the fresh produce industry. 3- Sustainable Packaging that Meets Market Demands
Keeping up with customer demands and market trends is essential for growers and packers to grow and maintain business. Currently, there is a strong and growing demand from supermarket chains, foodservice distributors, and restaurant chains for growers and packers to eliminate wax boxes and switch to wax-free recyclable packaging. Interstate Container works hand-in-hand with growers and packers to help transition them to wax-free coated corrugated boxes that are FBA-certified 100% recyclable and repulpable.
Unrecyclable solid waste generated from paraffin-coated cardboard is presently at a high of 1.45 million tons according to Global Green USA Coalition for Resource Recovery (CoRR) [1]. By recycling 100 tons of Greencoat boxes, fresh produce customers can save 1,527 million BTUs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 312 tons of MTCO2E and 85 tons of MTCE.
