• When did you start this business?

I started this business in 2017. Initially I was working in IT company but then my passion of creating my own online business lead me to start this business. So I left the job and started this online T-shirt printing business.

• Is this business part-time or full time for you?

I tried this business as part-time… but still it required a lot of money to run. And therefore I invested much more time on it.

• What was your aim while starting this business?

Actually, I was passionate about becoming an entrepreneur and getting self-employed inorder to get online income…. So, I started this T-shirt printing business online.

• How do you feel right now about your business, are you satisfied?

You should not try at what you are not good at… Because it takes a lot of effort and self sacrifice to win a business and most probably it won’t happen if you are not well prepared for it.

• What struggle did you go through in developing this business?

Actually I thought it would take a little amount of money to do this business as a part-time… But when I enter in it practically and tried to succeed in this business, it was costing me a lot more than I thought. On the other hand, when I tried to sell through Amazon… I faced a lot of difficulties.

I have to sell T-shirt on top of the amazon commission and I also should manage when people return my product. And that was really very difficult.

Even though I was very much caring about the quality of my T-shirt cloth… the Amazon orders often get return with double transport cost.

People just buy your product and later comparing the price with others… they tend to return back the T-shirt. Most of the amazon customers don’t care about quality… And in-return I have to pay for all the transport and return charges without any profit obtained.

Later, I realized that either I should have my own dropshipping facilities or T-Shirt cloth manufacturing unit. At this point, it would take a lot of money to invest. In my point of view otherwise, it is difficult to succeed.

• Roughly how much capital or investment is needed to run this business?

It depends on the person, about how much profit he wants to earn… If he want to start as a part-time and expect only very minimum profit… then it would take around 1 to 2lakhs.

On the other hand, If someone wants to really make huge profit from this business… He should properly buy all kind of necessary things like machines, materials and do marketing in a big way. For this kind of business, it may cost around minimum of 20 lakhs.

• Roughly say how much is the profit one can achieve in this business?

This business is a hugely profitable business if properly done. For each T-shirt sale, one can get 20Rs, 30Rs ie., 10% of the profit in a wholesale market. In my point of view, the minimum profit of a T-shirt printing business would be 10,000 Rs/Day.

But, if you do it with low investment… your success rate is very minimum. And if you manage to succeed then you can make your living out of it… nothing more, nothing less. Maybe, a 15000 Rs to 30,000 monthly…

Additional Tips from Akshay to run this business successfully:

• Research and Development is a must before you start this business

You have to correctly analyze your market and demand for the T-shirt from the audience you are going to target.

You have to analyze the geolocation of your audience or customers and their interest level to buy a custom T-shirt.

You cannot successfully sell your quality product to a rural area, whereas they prefer only cheap T-shirts with good designs.

Thus you have to analyze the interest of your customers and produce the product according to their needs.

Similarly, you can sell your high-quality material to major cities…

Even then you should be able to manufacture the T-shirt cloth by yourself to gain more profit.

• You should be ready to invest in lakhs…

Even if you wish to start this business as a part-time… in reality you will at least need 1 or 2 lakhs of Rupees to run this business.

You have to be knowledgeable about cloth materials and their cost. Then you have to buy machines for printing and computer-aided software for design.

• Online Model Business:

Sell T-shirts online… in this way, you can really print and sell your T-shirt by getting pre-order requests.

You can just display a set of designs online and set minimum order. After you get a confirmed order then you can print design and send it to their address. The range of T-shirt prices is like 150 Rs, 300 Rs, 400 Rs, 500 Rs and so on.

In order to be a success in this model, you should have to find a cheap drop shipping company and be able to bulk purchase the T-shirt from the company.

• Do not deal with Custom Sizes:

Most of the people who start this business does this mistake… even I did this mistake of designing unique sizes of T-shirts. It really does not bring any profit, so just blindly go with the standard sizes out there in the market.

• Quality should meet customer needs:

You have to decide, whom you are going to sell your T-shirt… And deeply analyze your audience’s needs. You have to find out how much importance they give for the quality and design.
