Steamboat is searching for a Cost Controller to manage the cost of goods expenses for our entire resort. Working hand and hand with both individual departments across the mountain as well as the revenue management team. Utilizing these relationships you will determine pricing recommendations which align with our budgeted cost percentage goals for the resort. Detailed job description, including responsibilities, work performed, tools or equipment used, etc.:

  • Analyzes financial product invoices and market trend data to maximize profitability

  • Compiles information, analyzes and monitors actual sales mix against expectation

  • Protects and strengthens our competitive advantage by advocating and supporting sound business and financial decision making

  • Implements a system of appropriate controls to manage business risks

  • Assist in reviewing vendor contracts and analyze opportunities for cost savings by leveraging the purchasing power of the Resort and Alterra Mountain Company in the negotiation process

  • Oversee Resort inventory process and spot check as necessary to ensure count accuracy and identify monthly inventory variances

  • Provides excellent leadership by assigning other Managers' clear accountability backed by appropriate authority

  • Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocates sound financial/business decision making; demonstrates honesty/integrity; leads by example

  • Collaborate with management to strategize ways to minimize waste

  • Communicates the goals and the Resort priorities to Resort Team in a clear and precise manner

  • Establish and maintain a cost allocation transfer system for inventory and supplies to the various departments. Summarize these transactions for each financial period close

  • Cost all food and beverage menu items and where practical, input these costs into the point of sales system and generate monthly potential food and beverage cost of sales.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Director of Food & Beverage, Director of Retail & Rental, and Director of Procurement to advise on any potential problems or opportunities to improve controls

  • Establish and monitor the following operational controls in all Food & Beverage outlets:

o Cash Bars

o Menu Items (ensure that they are properly rung up the system)

o Liquor pouring procedures

o Guests check void controls

o Cash handling and check settlement

o Point of Sale system user capabilities and controls

o Portion controls

  • Develop and Maintain Finance and Accounting Expectations

  • Anticipating and Delivering on the Needs of Key Stakeholders

  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures as well as any regulatory requirements

  • Other duties, as assigned

Minimum skills, experience, education and ability required for this job:

  • Track record of evaluating business processes, provide recommendations, and advocate for the change management process for long lasting process improvements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience is required

  • Previous progressive operational experience desired

  • Must have a high degree of professional integrity, and be able to work in a safe, prudent manner, with minimal supervision

  • Interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management consistent with Steamboat Ski and Resort Company's Service Excellence standards

Physical Requirements:

  • Largely sedentary position with office based out of the SSRC Administration Building

  • Ability to lift to 30 lbs is expected

  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule to accomplish all requirements and tasks

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Communicate clearly in English, both verbal / non-verbal, and written

Miscellaneous information:

  • Position requires a team player mentality that can see past the current Resort operation and be a part of a team to elevate the Resort to world class status in terms of employee engagement, guest experience and profitability

  • Position requires working weekends and holidays as needed

  • All Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation employees are required to follow adapting COVID policies and guidelines

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Steamboat area base salary range: $55,000 - $70,000 per year
