Delhi: A Complete Lockdown for One Week, From Tonight till 26th April

A Complete Lockdown in Delhi has been imposed by the Delhi Government from today, Monday night (19th April) till next Monday Morning (26th April). The lockdown has been imposed in the wake of a record rise in the COVID-19 cases, which has severely been straining the resource and health infrastructure of the city. As per the announcement by CM Arvind Kejriwal, today, in the national capital, a lockdown for six days will come into force from 10 pm tonight till next Monday’s 5 am.
The formal announcement was made by Kejriwal on the subject of a complete lockdown in the national capital, Delhi following a meeting on (19th April) Monday morning, between Lieutenant Anil Baijal and CM Kejriwal.
On Sunday (18th April), the highest rise of 25,462 new cases was registered by the national capital in its daily coronavirus tally, along with around 30 per cent of positivity rate, which means – in Delhi, every three samples being tested is turning out to be positive.
As per the sources, all private offices will be on ‘Work from Home’ and only government offices along with essential services will be open.
Recently, in order to ‘break the chain of transmission’, from 16th April to 19th April (Monday) morning, Delhi was under a weekend curfew. But due to the continuation of violations in parts of the city, indicated that stricter steps were needed.
In the previous lockdown – malls, restaurants, auditorium, spas, gyms were ordered to shut down in Delhi.
The day by day rising cases of coronavirus has been exerting terrific pressure on the health infrastructure of Delhi. The situation is getting serious and worrisome with the cases going up really fast. Last year, a complete lockdown was imposed in the national capital between March 22nd to 18th May and after this, Delhi was reopened in stages.
Now, with a rise in the number of cases, restrictions are again needed to check the spread of the virus.
